Why Family Portraits are Important! Memphis Photographer.
So today as I was browsing the internet, this article popped up. And, boy, did it hit home.
As a photographer, I always stress the importance of getting family portraits made. I always sympathize with moms because I do understand we do not like to be in front of the camera. We can list a thousand reasons why we shouldn’t. This article states all the reasons WHY WE SHOULD.

It made me think of all the times I am in front of the camera taking a family’s photos, but what about the times when I shy away from someone taking mine–even a candid? I always tell myself–there’s a reason I’m BEHIND the camera. But, how will my children remember me if I’m not in the photo???
Allison Tate so accurately described every excuse we mothers have contrived in our brains as a reason to NOT have photos taken of ourselves or with our kids. Then she promptly puts us back in our places and tugs on our heartstrings and lets us know we aren’t promised tomorrow. Our kids love us just the way we are. Yes, it’s just that simple.
So, in honor of this great article, I’m sharing a photo taken of my kids and me in Colorado over the summer. Yes, I actually hired someone to take our family’s photos!!! While I am saving a majority of them for our Christmas card, I thought I would share this one. (Thanks, Carly!).
I’m going to print out this article as a great reminder to be in more photos…even snapshots. I can still hear my children’s voices tell me, “Mom, you’re beautiful. Mom, you’re so young. You’re not old. You’re not fat.” It’s because they see me through eyes of love, and I guess they are just mirroring what they see through mine.
